VPN Tracker 4.6 (1B96) is out

By VPN Tracker

Another beta is out and it already resolves the first issues we discovered on Intel based Macs. Despite these issues, which are unrelated to connection establishment itself, we did not receive any negative feedback so far; so we hope VPN Tracker is performing as well on your Intel based Macs as it does for us.

The new beta is available for download:

The most important changes cover an issue where the pre-shared key could not be saved and connections could not be duplicated.

If you have any feedback regarding this beta or if you think you found an incompatibility on Intel based Macs, don’t hesitate to contact us. We really appreciate your feedback.

VPN Tracker 4.6 Beta 1B95 for Intel

By VPN Tracker

Today equinux is releasing the first VPN Tracker Beta version that is ready for Intel based Macs. Since VPN Tracker integrates very deeply into the operating system it is impossible to run the current version within the Rosetta environment. We have been working hard on a version that runs on almost every system, PowerPC and Intel, from operating system 10.2.5 up to 10.4.4.

Amazed by the high number of requests for VPN Tracker for Intel based Macs, we decided to not keep early birds waiting any longer and release a public beta version that shows how much progress we made so far. All the low level and critical parts of VPN Tracker are universal already and so far there are no known issues running VPN Tracker on our new Intel Macs. So if you can’t wait any longer for a release or if you would like to help us to speed up the development process, don’t hesitate to try out VPN Tracker 4.6 Beta.

If you have any feedback regarding this beta or if you think you found an incompatibility on Intel based Macs, don’t hesitate to contact us. Even if you have no problem and just want to let us know that it works great on your new iMac, we’d like to hear about it. Your feedback has always been welcome, but this time it is even more valuable for us than ever before.

As of January 10th, 2006, iSale 3.0 is available for download. We have been listening to your requests and added many of the features you asked for as well as added features we just thought were to cool to skip.

You can now use templates, which we provide from our servers and update constantly. Using templates you can create auctions that say more than you could fit in the description with the ease of pressing a button.
iSale now supports importing data from other websites, such as Amazon.com, and eBay.com, which makes creating new auctions even easier. No more cumbersome and time consuming typing, nor searching for descriptions to copy-paste from somewhere else. Using a plugin-technology we made sure for iSale to be extensible, so that new plugins will allow to take advantage of even more data sources in the future. And Mail and Addressbook integration make it even easier to keep track of all aftersales matters.

Among the new features are:

  • WYSIWYG editor with template support
  • Download new templates free of charge
  • Funky pinboard layout in Polaroid-style
  • Google Map integration
  • Smart Date Feature
  • Amazon import function
  • eBay import function

Mac OS 10.4.3 Secures AES Compatibility

By VPN Tracker

Apple Computer – thank you for addressing our concern about OS X Tiger’s AES-192 and AES-256 compatibility.

With Apple’s release of Mac OS 10.4.3, VPN Tracker Pro and Server now are fully functional in regards to both of these high-encryption standards. So what does this mean for you, our VPN Tracker customers? If you are connecting to networks that deal with highly-sensitive data that needs to be under lock and key, you now have a secure method of doing so.

Also, if you are in need of an extra level of security, check out VPN Tracker’s support for both XAUTH and SecurID.

Here is a little side note about AES Security from Wikipedia.

As of 2005, no successful attacks against AES have been recognised. The National Security Agency (NSA) reviewed all the AES finalists, including Rijndael, and stated that all of them were secure enough for US Government non-classified data. In June 2003, the US Government announced that AES may be used for classified information:
“The design and strength of all key lengths of the AES algorithm (i.e., 128, 192 and 256) are sufficient to protect classified information up to the SECRET level. TOP SECRET information will require use of either the 192 or 256 key lengths. The implementation of AES in products intended to protect national security systems and/or information must be reviewed and certified by NSA prior to their acquisition and use.”
